In a lecture theatre at the University of Cape Coast, a group of friends found themselves deep in debate about climate change, Africa's vulnerability, and the role young people should play. The conversation wouldn't end when the class did. Over the following weeks, it became a plan.
With a shared sense of urgency and a belief that local action could drive global change, the founding team registered Banyani as a nonprofit. The name, the mission, and the values were forged from genuine conviction — not a template or a grant requirement.
Banyani launched its flagship programs: the Tree Planting Program, Waste to Art, Banyani School Clubs, Ocean Literacy, the Africa Resilience Academy, and Every Grain Counts. Communities, schools, and youth groups across Ghana began joining the movement.
Today, Banyani is building partnerships across Africa and beyond — connecting local heroes to global conversations, and equipping the next generation of African climate leaders with the tools, knowledge, and networks they need to thrive.
